Energy Recovery

Controlled Environment Energy Systems started designing and installing Energy Recovery Systems in the 1970's when fuel prices skyrocketed. Our systems convert waste heat and material to energy that then powers hot water, building HVAC, and other systems. With current high fuel prices, Energy Recovery Systems pay for themselves in as little as twelve months and our clients routinely save between tens of thousands to over a million dollars annually in fuel costs. We work with your local energy provider to obtain any available rebates or incentives for you.

CEE will custom-engineer energy recovery systems

...to meet your specific requirements. This begins with a thorough investigation of your plant and process energy requirements. We then prepare a detailed analysis for each energy recovery option and offer our recommendations in a proposal. We have single-source responsibility for your system from design through installation and application. We custom-design three different systems:

Air to Water Heat Recovery Systems

Heat Recovery Schematic

CEE will custom engineer an air-to-water heat recovery system for your application. These systems can be used for heating process water directly, or they can provide indirect heating of process air or building makeup air. We provide a complete system including pump, expansion tank, piping, and valves. Glycol systems are available if required for freeze protection or for higher temperature applications.

Air to Air Energy Recovery Systems

Air to Air Recovery

Midwest Roto/Flexo Printing generated waste heat from process exhaust. An air-to-air exchanger was used to recover the waste heat and introduce it into the inlet of a make-up air unit mounted on the roof. The make up air is rated at 25,000cfm and the recovered heat supplies the requirements 90% of the time. When the outside temperature reaches 0F, the burner trims the temperature to maintain a 70F output into the building. Fuel savings per year: approximately $40,000.

Waste Heat Boiler Energy Recovery Systems

Waste Heat Boiler

This is a Waste Heat Boiler powered by the heat generated by a Regenerative Oxidizer. The system's overall yearly fuel savings are approximately $1,400,000.

This unit replaced an afterburner with a boiler connected to the exhaust. However, there was no control on the afterburner and boiler needed the maximum amount of heat generated by the afterburner. This created an excess of steam at 250psi which was vented to atmosphere using a 6" diameter pipe running 24 hours per day.
